Geek Girl Boss started as a phrase that popped into my head one day, “For the love of fandom”. I realized that it could be the beginning of a panel. A group of entrepreneurial women from all walks of life in different stages of their career with one thing in common — their geekiness. And not just liking video games and books geeky. But true enthusiasts and experts in their field, gaining the knowledge to succeed through sheer hard work and determination, regardless of what others thought. Seeing so many examples of this for women in mainstream fields, I seek out women doing work in areas I didn’t even know existed. Shining a light so that their voices are heard by other women who are searching for more but do not know where to find it.
Geek Girl Brunch
Geek Girl Brunch is an international meetup organization with a mission to create safe environments for self-identifying geek women. Places where they can be themselves, create friendships, inspire each other and just hang out. In 2016, Geek Girl Brunch had over 3,000 members spread across 80 chapters in 7 countries. I’ve been an officer since 2015 planning monthly themed brunches, meetups, and special event parties for geek girls in the NYC area.
The Harry Potter World Tour
Exploring new places is one of my favorite things. As a kid, I would binge watch travel shows hoping to star in my own someday. In 2016 I traveled the world to do “all the Harry Potter things”. It was amazing (obvs!) It wasn’t easy to plan or execute, so I write and give presentations about my journey to make it easier for others.
I use Instagram as a travel guide. Each picture telling adding to the story.
